BMW i3 All Electric

Powertrain research project.

BMW i3 All Electric Testing

Occasionally we are contracted to provide testing services for companies that are in the research and development or other transportation related industries on our chassis dynamometer. Fyi, a chassis dynamometer is a treadmill for vehicles allowing them to be tested under specific road load conditions allowing for easier collection of test data.

The i3 shown here was one of two used in this project. The company is testing newly developed traction motor and control systems with targets in place to exceed US production vehicle performance for use in other markets. The vehicle testing on this project began back in Q3 Fy 2015 and was concluded in Q1 FY 2016 with positive results all around.

i3 FTP 75

The data shown on the left is a sample of what’s being measured while operating the vehicle through specific drive cycles. These are some of the same drive cycles new automobiles must follow prior to receiving certification for sale in the US.

i3 FTP 75 Power

This is the power only data sampled from the data network during the FTP 75 test.

i3 NEDC Power

Power data recording from the controller area network during the NEDC drive trace testing.

i3 NEDC Power and Temp

Power and temperature data recording from the controller area network during the NEDC drive trace testing.
